Callicarpa americana; indigenous to Louisiana and Arkansas; formerly sold as "French Mulberry" but this is incorrect on both accounts; actually a member of Verbenaceae family. Low spreading shrub; purple berries not edible raw but used in Arkansas winemaking (past and present); zones 6-9.
