Margaret Best Greasy Cutshort

VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole bean, said to be eaten as half-ripe pod with half-ripe seeds, strung up and hung to dry over the woodstove. 3" pods (measured in curved state, dry), easy to shell. Seeds 3/8x1/4x1/8" or 7/16x5/16x3/16", many with squared-off ends ('cut-short') and shiny ('greasy'). From Bill Best of SMAC in Appalachia, who has many greasy cutshort. Hugely productive some years. In 2014, 10 plants (on 2' of trellis) gave 100 pods and 420 seeds, and another year 355 in part shade (on a 4' tripod). In 2017 (shorter season, drought) I got 56 seeds. Ripen over a long period (100-150 days or frost). Keeps flowering. 100 seeds/oz. Similar to Pink Tip Greasy (even more productive but later) from SMAC. I got orders for this from Appalachian gardeners. Also did well in Boston. Can send up to 25 seeds from 2021. 3 year germination 75%.
