Queen Anne’s Lace - Daucus carota

FLOWERS / MISC-FLOWERS
3’-6’ tall, with umbel flowers. Tiny lacy flowers, with leaves resembling a Carrot. A large variety of solitary wasps and bees are attracted to this. (Umbel shaped flowers are a favorite for many pollinators) This plant is sometimes mistaken for Poison Hemlock, which has shiny stems, and an unpleasant odor when crushed. D. carota has hairy stems, and an odor like Carrots. The root of D. carota looks like a small Carrot. If foraging for wild seeds, take caution in ID’ing. This is sometimes considered to be a weed, but is a beautiful addition to native pollinator gardens and restorations.
