Green shoulders, cream-colored bottoms. Elliptic shape. Most roots have some lateral branching. Roots 5-7" long, 4-4.5" wide. Short green neck. Light yellow flesh color. Nice flavor, quite sweet. Green leaves, green petioles. From Neil Lash (ME LA N) of Waldoboro, Maine, who facilitates the Medomak Valley High School Heirloom Seed Project. Sometime around 1993, Samuel Beverage from North Haven Island, ME, brought seeds of this variety to Neil with the following description: "Came from the shipwreck 'Jacques' which is still visible in Witherspoon's cove in North Haven. Turnips were part of the cargo and were salvaged and shared along with the wreckage which was saved by Don Witherspoon's grandfather." Neil says that while the variety is locally known as a turnip, technically it's a rutabaga. The exact date of the shipwreck is not known, but is implied to be 19th century. SSE Accession # 133220
