Carolyn’s parents, Joe and Eva Ravnikar, were the first in her family to grow the variety when they acquired it in 1957 from their neighbors, John and Mary Gazdik. At that time, Joe and Eva were living in the West Corners neighborhood of Endicott, NY, and their backyard garden bordered John and Mary Gazdik’s garden. It's unknown exactly how John (deceased) acquired seed for the variety, but he told this story about its origin: This tomato was once served as part of a meal at a bar/restaurant in Endicott. One patron proclaimed that it was the best tomato he had ever eaten and asked his server from where/whom they had acquired the tomatoes. The server responded with “the old Czech brought them in.” SSE Accession # 131753
