Yellow Bellflower type. Large, long, conical, pale greenish yellow fruit with deep cavity. Thin, tough, smooth, waxy skin. Crisp, juicy, yellowish white flesh. Excellent, sprightly, subacid flavor. Hangs from the tree on a long stem. Medium size, moderately vigorous tree. Ripens in late fall; October to January. One of the earliest American apples. First described as Woolman's Long Pippin, probably named after famous Quaker preacher and abolitionist, John Woolman. Dates to 1825 from the orchard of Michael Ortley, New Jersey.
