Possible parent of Northern Spy. Medium to large, irregularly shaped, distinctly five-sided, flattened fruit with slight ribbing. Thin, glossy, smooth skin is striped and mottled pale red over very light yellow. Fine grained, crisp, juicy, tender flesh. Subacid, aromatic, sprightly flavor resembles Northern Spy and improves after frost. Very juicy; excellent cider apple. Cooks down to very fine sauce. Exceptionally long storage life. Small tree bears early; prolific, hardy, moderately biennial. Ripens mid to late October. Hangs long on the tree. Zones 4-9. Seedling discovered near Penn Yan, New York, 1791.
