Medium size fruit with deep reddish purple skin and spectacular red flesh with a white star in the center when cut cross-wise. Flesh is initially very tart and somewhat astringent becoming mellow subacid when fully mature. Gives great color to cider as well as pies. Foliage deep green to greenish red with maroon-red leaf veins; ornamental. Ripens late August to early September. SSE Accession # 100441
