Kinkan

VEGETABLES / TOMATO
ORANGE-YELLOW
Kinkan is a small Japanese kumquat. One ancestor is Japanese Black Trifele (medium-size black pear-shaped disease prone). It produced some orange pear-shaped fruits in 2012 and various small orange fruits since then. Disease-resistant, highly productive until frost. Not stable. Some plants produced 1 1/8 to 1 1/4" (12 g) pale orange sweet tasty fruits with a pink blush (much better tasting than Lilit cherry or White cherry) and some 1 3/4" insipid ones, and in 2019 one plant also produced 1" pink fruits. In 2020 plants of two orange varieties produced orange, while the pink ones produced pink fruits on one plant and tasty 1 3/4" round brownish-red ones on another. The orange (very productive) and pink ripened from August 8 to late October (frost) and the big red one from August 26 , sparsely (and it got a lot of disease). Specify pink, orange, or red kinkan (or all three). 2022 or older seed.
