VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Bush/dry. True bush habit. Compact plants have slightly blistered green leaves. Light pink flowers. Immature pods are green, uniform and slightly curved. Fully expanded pods turn light greenish-yellow and measure 4.6-6.0" long and 0.4" wide. Mature pods are light yellow. 4-6 seeds per pod. Medium sized, yellow-brown, kidney shaped seeds. Early maturing. This bean variety was reportedly brought to Canada in about the 1920s by a Norwegian woman who then grew and sold them to local Canadian trappers. Robert Ludtke (B.C LU R) of Clearwater, British Columbia, donated this variety to Seed Savers Exchange in 1992 and said his father was one of those trappers. During the 1940s and 1950s, Mr. Ludtke would buy 30 lbs of dry beans from her each year while on his trap line in the hills. Later on, he and Robert began growing and saving seeds of the beans themselves. SSE Accession # 103728
