PINK-PURPLE
Large, pink, very early maturing beefsteak tomato with dark red flesh. Fair flavor. Less sweet and a bit dull, though moderate acidity brightens the flavor a bit. Flattened fruit shape. Fruit have a delicate skin that splits easily. Fruit 5-7 ounces; 2-2.5 inches long, 3 inches wide. 2-3 fruit per cluster. Tall plants have lush foliage. Indeterminate growth. Regular leaves. Average productivity. Brix reading 5.0. Charles Wise of Lexington, NC donated this variety to SSE in 2009. When he was a boy, the June Pink tomato was "about the only tomatoe that was grown in the area I lived until the late 50's when people started some of the new hybrid's." Charles noted that this variety is what his own family "always planted" as well. Charles originally received the variety from his 87 year old neighbor who wanted Charles to save the seed and keep it going. This neighbor's family had grown it for at least 60 years.
