Swede Purple Top

Purple tops, white bottoms. Uniform, elliptical shape. 4-5 inches long, 4 inches wide. Smooth skin. Light yellow flesh color. Purple-green leaf petioles. Green leaves with a slight yellow hue. Leaves are unusually droopy and prostrate. Short, narrow necks. This accession matches the description of Swede Purple Top listed in J.J.H. Gregory & Son catalogue from 1902. Acquired by SSE from Bountiful Gardens (CV Bou). Purple-topped rutabagas have been available commercially in the U.S. since at least the mid 19th century. SSE Accession # 119191
