VEGETABLES / LETTUCE
            LEAF
Green deer tongue. Smooth, triangular leaves curl downwards. Crunchy midrib, crisp leaves, tender, mild flavor. Plants reach 5-6" tall and 9-11" wide. Average bolting resistance. Black seed. This variety was donated to SSE in 1991 by Nancy Hendrikson (OH HE N), a Seed Savers Exchange member from Ohio who shared this variety in the 1990 SSE Yearbook and Exchange. At that time, Nancy described the lettuce as a strain from the Czech community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa which her Great Aunt Rose and family grew for almost 100 years (SSE estimates since circa 1900).
