Manchester Connecticut 1834. Planted in Ohio in days of the Civil War specifically for production of apple butter. Large to very large round ribbed fruit. Skin tough yellow green with brown flush, some scarf skin. Firm sweet to very sweet semi juicy yellow flesh, may sometimes watercore. Very vigorous tree with upright spreading hanging branches. Ripens L. Sept to L. Oct. Keeps until Dec. Usually annual, may become biennial. Obtained from tree near the town of Waldo WI.
