Plants average 2' tall, openly branching plants. Small, carrot-shaped fruit that ripen from green to orange to red. Fruit average 2" long, .7" wide at widest point, 0.2oz. Moderate fruit set. Smokey hot flavor with thin flesh. Donated to SSE by William Woys Weaver (PA WE W). This variety is believed to have been introduced or developed in the 1800s by Mennonite horticulturist, Jacob B. Garber (1800-1886) of Lancaster, PA. Preserved for many years by the Martin family of Ephrata, PA, who use it like a jalapeno in cooking. The Pennsylvania Dutch often pickle it whole.
