Butterhead. Medium-sized plants form a moderately well-defined head. Green, obovate leaves have a moderate burgundy tinge. Strong surface blistering and slight leaf margin undulation. Plants average 6" tall and 13" in diameter. Crisp, buttery leaves with some variability in flavor. White seeded. Average time to bolting when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Johnny Speer who received the variety in the early 1970s from two elderly ladies. They told Speer this variety had come to Oklahoma from Florida or Georgia at the turn of the 20th century. SSE Accession # 112521
