Pole. Snap bean. Strong climbing tendency. White flowers. Slightly curved, green pods become yellow and develop a light red blush at maturity. Good as a snap bean. Suture string present in flat pods. Mature pods average 4.2" long by 0.5" wide. 3-6 seeds per pod. Shelling (horticultural) beans have a slightly sweet, full flavor with a light texture. Very late maturing. Did not develop dry pods in 2012 at Heritage Farm. Acquired by SSE from John Coykendall (TN CO J) who obtained the variety from Gene Moore of Knoxville, TN. Grown by the Penland family of Franklin, NC and dates to 1864. SSE Accession # 129226
