Fengyuan Purple

Plants 1-2' tall. No prickles. Dark violet petioles, violet-green leaf blades. Strongly lobed, pubescent leaves. Dark purple flowers, commonly born in pairs. Large, elongate, purple market mature fruit commonly born singly. Market mature fruit average 11.3" long, 1.5" wide, and 0.33 lbs. Yellow-brown seed mature fruit average 11.5" long, 1.7" wide, and 0.38 lbs. High fruit set. Very good flavor. Sweet. Flesh texture tender. SSE received this variety from Jeremiath Gettle (MO GE J) who indicated it's a Taiwanese heirloom. SSE Accession # 109679
