VEGETABLES / OKRA
Unique okra. Long and thin, pale green pods. Delicious flavor. Best eaten under 6" long. Pods are both straight and curved. No distinct ridges. Downy pubescence. Non-pigmented plants. Moderately productive despite severe disease in 2015 growout at Heritage Farm. Dry pods measured 8-13" long. Donated to SSE in 2013 by James Gawenis of Salt Lake City, UT. James rescued seed pods of this variety from his grandfather’s garden in 2012 following his grandpa's death. His grandfather, John H. MacDonald (one of the founders of the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association), grew the variety in Whitney, TX after having received it in 1978. The variety came to John from Rex Eubanks (deceased), also of Whitney, and Rex claimed that the okra had been stewarded by the Eubanks family for over four generations. SSE Accession # 131799
