VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-PEPO
Oblong, orange carving pumpkin. Dark green ridges on peduncle extend down the body of the pumpkin on most fruit, creating an attractive, unique look. Uniform fruit shape, with some size variability. Smooth skin with superficial ribbing. Strongly vining plants. Fruit measure 9-14" long, 9-13" wide and weigh 10-30lbs. Pale orange flesh, about 2" thick. Poor eating qualities. Mid-season maturing when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Cucurbita pepo. Donated to SSE by Timothy Bates (WA BA T) who acquired the variety circa 1990 from a gardener in Ohio. This variety is not named after Bates, but was grown in the Ohio gardener's family for many years. SSE Accession # 120241
