Organic Listing
Scionwood ($6) and a 2-year-old bare root tree on G.214 semi-dwarfing rootstock ($20) available. Also known as Knobby Russet, Winter Russet, Old Maids, and Winter Apple. Description borrowed from Trees of Antiquity: The Knobbed Russet apple tree was first recognized in Sussex, England 1819. The Knobbed Russet apple is a large green and yellow apple with glint of red when fully ripe. A true oddity in the orchard, as the name implies, fruit with welts and warts which often appear more akin to angular rocks or potatoes hanging from the limbs of the apple tree. The true beauty lies beneath this knobbly surface which reveals a crisp, rich, intense sweet/tart flesh. They are harvested late in the season.
