Mountain Hoosier

Huge fruit, 10-12" long, 9-10" wide, 20-25lbs. Dark green rind, oblong in shape with a distinct "innie" belly button at the blossom end. Yellow belly when ripe. Thick rind. Light red/pink flesh color. Very sweet. A sugar bomb! Flesh a little bit stringy but not unpleasantly so. Not super crisp but still good texture. Brix 12.0. Flesh tends to split at maturity, hence the fruit give a low thud at maturity when tapped. Moderately productive. Late maturing. Seeds white with a tan tip. This accession matches the description of Mountain Hoosier listed in the Associated Seed Growers catalogue from 1949. Acquired by SSE from Willhite Seed. SSE Accession # 127764
