VEGETABLES / PEA
SHELLING
Shelling pea. Tall, lush plants grow 4.5-5.5 feet tall. One or two pods per peduncle. Pods light greenish-yellow, straight, 2.5-3 inches long. 6-8 small peas per pod. Moderately sweet, juicy, good flavor. Medium-low productivity. Later maturing. Round, yellow seeds with a black hilum. From the family of Marshall Carr, who has grown these peas all his life in Wilson County, North Carolina. Sometime during the 1940s, Marshall's mother received seeds of this variety from her hairdresser, Mary Young, in Duplin County, NC. The peas were seeds that Mary's parents and grandmother grew during her childhood circa the 1920s. They are likely named after one of her grandmother's best friends. In 2013, Marshall shared seeds with Bob Bulluck after reading an article about Bob's heritage seed collection. Bob donated this variety to SSE in 2017. SSE Accession # 133484
