SNAP-POLE
Pole, snap bean. Strong climber. Long, wide, romano-type pods. Standard flavor; slightly juicy, crunchy, firm, a bit astringent. Pods 6-8" long; 0.9" wide; green; flat; slightly curved. Pods develop purple stripes at maturity. No suture string. 6-8 seed per pod. Seeds are dark blue-black; large; oval-shaped. Plants have dark green leaves; purple flowers. Medium-high productivity when grown in 2016 and 2023 at Heritage Farm. Mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE in 2013 by Leigh Hurley (VT PI L). Leigh received this variety in 2011 from Alan LePage, a market gardener in Barre, Vermont. Alan received this bean from local resident Stan Conti. Stan's parents, Andrea and Loreta Conte (spelling discrepancy confirmed as correct), immigrated to Barre, VT at some point around 1914 from Lettomanoppello, Italy, bringing seeds of the variety with them.
