VEGETABLES / TOMATO
PINK-PURPLE
Paul Courteol began growing and saving this variety in about 1955 when he received a flat of tomato plants from someone who said their father had brought the original seeds to the U.S. from Italy. They stressed that if Paul liked the variety, he'd need to save seeds because you couldn’t buy it. The tomatoes did become a favorite (Paul calls them outstanding) and in his Sacramento, California garden, the plants reach between 16 and 20 feet tall. Paul decided to donate the variety to SSE in 1990 before he and his wife moved to a care community. At that time he'd grown this variety for over 35 years and, not having any other name for the tomatoes, Paul decided to call them 'Paul's Pink Pride.' SSE Accession # 123700
