VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Dry bush bean with superb flavor. Cranberry type with dense, creamy texture, thicker skin that holds together during cooking, and a deliciously sweet, umami flavor. Fat pods, 4-5" long, containing 4-6 seeds each. Pods develop vivid red stripes at maturity. Early maturing. Moderately productive. This bean has been in Donna Morkassel's family for as long as she can remember. Her father, Vyron Northup of Puposky, Minnesota got the seeds from his parents, Archie and Myrtle Northup of Ottertail County, MN. Donna speculates the variety must have come from a grandmotherly neighbor named Mrs. Nendick, because the beans were named for her. Donna donated seeds of this variety to SSE in the mid 1990s.
