Pole/snap. Great texture and flavor, sweet. And juicy. Half runner habit. Leafy and bushy plants have white flowers. Immature, short, straight, green pods are born in pairs. Fully expanded immature measure 4.5-5.5" long and 0.4-0.6" wide. Yellow mature pods have faint purple stripes. 6-7 seeds per pod. Medium sized white, oblong seeds. Moderately productive when grown on Heritage Farm in 2018. Early maturing. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. Withee acquired this variety from the Hastings' Seed Company. SSE staff finds this accession is an example of ‘State’ offered by Asgrow as early as 1949. SSE Accession # 101430
