Milkweed

Asclepias syriaca from the USA Great Plains region of the upper midwest -- specifically from Wisconsin's Empire Prairie. Grows best in deep loam soil with direct sun or in partial shade, does OK in rocky soil. Needs some moisture to germinate, very tolerant of extreme wet and extreme dry after it is about 8 inches tall. A balanced, stately plant with sweetly perfumed balls of purple flowers favored by native and honey bees.
