French Dinant

Single Image
VEGETABLES / CELERY
French Dinant celery is also known as Chinese celery. This is leaf celery or cutting celery. Plants are 30-35 inches tall with dark green leaves and dark green petioles. Petioles are thin up to 0.5 inches wide. Younger petioles tend to have red coloring, but this quickly fades. Some plants have no red coloring, but this seems to be standard color variation in celery. Petioles are hollow, but would be great in soup as they have a very strong flavor. This is a match to the modern variety offered by several seed companies. Acquired by SSE from Nichols Garden Nursery of Oregon. This variety has at least 35 years of post-1950 commercially availability in the U.S. SSE Accession # 107337
