VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-PEPO
C. pepo. Classic spaghetti squash with skin color ranging anywhere from creamy white to medium yellow. A few fruit have green or orange stripes. They have a smooth rind and are ribbed at the stem end. There was some variation in size, fruit being 7-10" long, 5-6" wide, and 5-6lbs. The flesh is pale yellow and 0.5-0.8" thick. During the 2021 planting at Heritage Farm, this variety had a medium-high productivity, with an average of 7 fruit per plant. It has a highly vining growth habit. Generally speaking, spaghetti squash has been commercially available in the United States since at least the 1930s. In 1935, the W. Atlee Burpee company offered and described it as a "recently introduced vegetable and but little known as yet." Seed Savers Exchange received this variety in 2018 from Nicols Garden Nursery.
