VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Vigorously climbing lima bean. Very leafy plants. Medium sized, white seed. Flavor of dry beans is mild, sweet and buttery with a smooth and creamy texture. Pods are 2-3 inches long and contain 3 seeds each, rarely 2 or 4 seeds. Mid to late season maturing. Highly productive. Donated to SSE in the early 1980s by Reverend Thornton Cutchin (VA CU T) of Carrollton, Virginia. At that time, Cutchin simply called this a "no name" lima, but stated he received it from Mr. Earl Ginn, age 70 of Smithfield, VA. Cutchin also indicated that the variety was passed down from Mr. Ginn's parents, that it was originally grown in Georgia, and that it dates to the "early 1900s." However, the exact details of the Ginn family's stewardship are unknown. SSE Accession # 112555
