VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Bush bean, 10-14" tall. Green stems and leaves. White flowers. Pods green when flat, yellow at shelling stage, leathery-podded when dry. Pods are pear-shaped in cross-section, short and straight, with medium, straight and downward-pointing beaks. Mature pods 3.75-4.75" long, 0.5-0.6" wide. Pods fibrous, not a snap bean. Bland flavor as a shelling bean. 2-6 seeds per pod. Seeds mostly white with pigment on dorsal side (ie soldier type or vigarcus). Pigmented portion has a yellow base, which is mostly obscured by a maroon layer covering it. Dry beans have a mild flavor. Early maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Jon Thurston (ME TH J), it's from the Medomak Valley High School Heirloom Seed Project which received the variety from Lestyn Thompson of Waldoboro, Maine. SSE Accession # 104525
