VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Dual purpose snap and dry bean. Snap beans are green, flat, and 5-7" long. Good flavor and texture, with weak strings. 5-6 seeds/pod. Kidney-shaped, tan seeds with purple stripes. Dry beans have great flavor with a dense, smooth texture. Pink flowers. Mid-season. Medium-high productivity. Pole bean. This heirloom bean is from the family of Vera (King) Cumper (b.1914 - d.2010) a lifelong resident of the Marlett, MI area. When she shared seeds with SSE in 1991, Vera said she began growing this variety after she and her husband, Frank Cumper, married in 1938. Vera recalled that her own parents, Cary and Velma King (married in 1902), grew and saved seeds of this variety during Vera's childhood. Vera used to can this variety and also added the dry beans to chili. SSE Accession # 103666
