Umama's Hungarian

Single Image
VEGETABLES / PEPPER
SWEET
Stewarded by three generations of the Csokasy family. David Csokasy’s grandparents migrated from Hungary and settled in Flat Rock, Michigan in the early 20th century. Even though David’s parents and grandparents were truck farmers, they grew this variety just for their own personal use. David says, “(…) family was always careful to guard the pepper seeds so that they did not become common amongst the market farmers.” The name Umama honors David’s grandmother, Lydia Csokasy. It derives from Nagymama, Hungarian for grandmother. David says these peppers can be eaten fresh, raw or cooked, in all stages from yellow to red; also good for pickling and for any recipes calling for peppers.
