VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
This is a pole bean best eaten dry. The dry beans have a sweet, nutty flavor and a dense texture. They are mostly hard seeded. The fresh beans are of the wax type and are bright yellow-green. Each pod contains 5-7 seeds. Moderately productive variety. This variety was given to Wilma Gayheart by her father, Ransom Stephens. He first received seeds of this variety in the late 1930s from his wife's uncle, Alex Bailey, near Prestonsburg, KY. Wilma stated that her family typically plants the beans in corn, after the corn plants are 4-5" tall. Donated to SSE in 2003 by Wilma Gayheart of Tiro, Ohio. SSE Accession # 105727
