Small plants with dark green, round leaves. Leaves are cupped and semi-erect. Inner leaves form a small rosette. Plants reach 2" tall and 5" wide. This hardy winter salad green, also known as mache, is best sown in the fall and harvested the following spring. Flavor is best under cool, moist conditions. Hearty flavor and delicate texture. Plants suffer in the heat and bolted in mid-June in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Acquired by SSE in 2016 from Restoration Seeds. A variety by this name has been commercially available in the U.S. from at least 1981-2016. SSE Accession # 132957
