VEGETABLES / POTATO
From Seed Savers Exchange, Heritage Farm. An incredibly beautiful potato with dark purple skin scattered with gold coloring. Flesh color is cream. Tubers range in size from 2-4 inches long and wide and weigh up to 0.5 lbs. Starchy with average flavor. This heirloom potato variety has been handed down within Sandi (Picha) Knapp's extended family in Canada. The family story states the potatoes were originally grown by John Picha, Sr in the early 1900s near Steuben, Wisconsin. He moved to Canada and took potatoes with him during the journey, but had eaten most of them by the time he arrived. Still, he planted what was left. John settled in Canada, married, and had six sons, one of whom, Albert Picha, continued to grow the potatoes. Sandi and her husband Don Knapp have grown the potatoes near Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin since 2008. SSE Accession # 133678.
