Abelmoschus moschatus. Not a true okra. Small plants, 1-1.5' tall. Stunning, large, pink flowers with a prominent stigma. Leaves are green with a reddish tinge and red veins. Reddish-green petiole. Short, stocky, green pods are about 1" long, downy and ridged. Pods are edible but but the plant is primarily ornamental. Early maturing. Donated to SSE circa 1995 by William Rizzo (MO RI W) who obtained this variety from Mr. Timothy Nifong, an acquaintance in North Carolina. This variety is reportedly from the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Rizzo described it as primarily and ornamental plant, but the fruits are edible. SSE Accession # 114042
