Angelo's Argentina

VEGETABLES / PEPPER
SWEET
C. baccatum. Sweet, crunchy, and crisp. Wrinkled fruits mature from pale green to a deep red. The donor recommends harvesting when green, as the skin tends to turn tough with age. Medium-sized elongate fruits measure 3.3-5" long, 1" wide, and weigh 0.5-1oz. Pendant and quite seedy for its size. Plants are erect, moderately branching, and reach 1.5-2.5' tall. White flowers with chartreuse spots. Highly productive when grown in 2023 at Heritage Farm. George Iamarino has been growing this pepper in Patterson, NY, since 1993 from seeds he got from his father-in-law, Angelo Pozzuto (1924-2020) of the Bronx, NY. Angelo, an Italian immigrant from Colle Sannita in the Province of Benevento, Campania region, received the seeds from relatives in Argentina in 1990. George prefers to pick his peppers when they're 3-4 inches long, still tender and green, because their skin toughens as they ripen. George donated this variety to the SSE's collection in 2017.
