Bush bean, 5.5-9.5" tall. Green stems and leaves. Flowers have white standard with pink central blotch, and white wings. Pods green when flat, yellow at shelling stage, leathery podded when dry. Pods are pear-shaped in cross-section, slightly curved, with short, downward-curving beaks. Mature pods 2-3" long, 0.4-0.5" wide. Snap beans have standard green bean flavor, best eaten flat as quickly becomes fibrous. As a shelling bean, smooth texture, subtle flavor. 1-4 seeds per pod. Seeds range in color from taupe to an olive-lime green; all have a dark brown eye-ring . Dry beans have a slightly tannic flavor and excellent, smooth texture. Early maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Mimi and Ron Hedl (MO HE R) who first offered it in the 1990 SSE Yearbook Exchange. They indicated that the bean had been grown near Belle, Missouri since at least 1900. SSE Accession # 103694
