Reticulated melon. Small, netted fruit turn yellow at maturity. Pale green flesh. Good flavor; sweet and juicy. Slightly grainy texture. Average rind thickness. Green stripes persist along the grooves at maturity. Fruit abscises from vine when ripe. Fruit reach 3-5" long by 3-4" wide and weigh 0.5-1lb at market maturity. Fruit rind 0.1-0.2" thick. Uniform fruit. Suffered from anthracnose in 2014 growout at Heritage Farm. High yielding despite disease. Early maturing. Acquired by SSE from Seeds Blum. The "Eden Gem" melon is mentioned in a 1905 AES bulletin by the Colorado Agricultural College (Bulletin #104) as one of several synonym names given "during the past two seasons" to the Pollock cantaloupe developed by Mr. J.P. Pollock of Colorado Springs, CO. The Pollock variety is thought to be descended from Burpee's 'Netted Gem'. SSE Accession # 112895
