Crisphead. Forms a moderately well-defined head. Yellow-green leaves are highly undulating and heavily blistered. Market mature plants reach 6-9" tall and 13-16" wide. Leaves measure 6-9" long and 8-10" wide. Tender, crisp leaves with no bitterness. Not very sweet. Average time to bolting when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. White seeds. Donated to SSE by the late Mary Schultz (WA SC M). Introduced in 1871 by Philadelphia seedsman Henry A. Dreer. Acquired by Dreer from Col. Hanson of Maryland whose family at that time, it was reported, had grown the lettuce for over seventy years (since circa 1800). SSE Accession # 111514
