Stump of the World, Red

Potato leaf indeterminate beefsteak variety. It is rather productive for a big tomato. Fruit can vary in size, but generally runs 10-12 oz. It has excellent flavor; a favorite of mine. The plant is quite large; I use cages made from cattle panels that are 7-1/2 feet tall and it will grow out the top. I sourced the seed originally through the Exchange but it was before I kept records. It has done well here in Iowa for 20 years or more. One source I read indicates the name comes from a Bible passage. Depending on the translation, Isaiah 11:1 reads “A shoot will spring from the stock of Jesse, a new shoot will grow from his stump(or root)”. It is an apparent reference to Jesus. It is a really good tomato, but I wouldn't't count on it for salvation.
