Vigna unguiculata. Deep red edible 18" pods on medium length vines which need pole-bean type support. The pods keep most of their color when sautéed. Delicious, nutritious, often used in Asian cuisine. Since this is actually a cowpea rather than a true bean, it tolerates sandy soil and low rainfall, and is better stir-fried, sautéed or grilled rather than boiled or steamed. Very attractive, tasty, and easy to grow and harvest. Small burgundy beans with darker burgundy stripes and small black eyes.
