Hanging Dog Elephant Leek

Single Image
VEGETABLES / GARLIC
In the late 1990's I spotted a few small green spikes poking up near an old Appalachia homesite in western NC in late fall/winter. By old, I mean only foundation stones & a vine-covered mound where the chimney once stood. Dug up a few, & was surprised to see it turn into a larger garlic. Been growing it ever since. Appears to be more or less an elephant. A chef thought it had a different flavor than regular elephant. I cant tell myself. Some years it appears to have a bit more vigor than regular elephant. I dubbed it Hanging Dog, just because that was a local name where found. Perhaps merely a hardy survivor strain of elephant.
