Maria’s Tlingit

Single Image
VEGETABLES / POTATO
According to the Sitka Local Foods Network, Tlingít potatoes (sometimes called Maria’s potatoes) have been present in Tlingít gardens for more than 200 years. The potatoes originate from Mexico or Chile and were a trade item in Southeast Alaska in the early 1800’s. I purchased my Tlingit seed potatoes from the Alaska Plant Materials Center, which sells their excess seed after they make sure they have enough for their plantings. This is a small/fingerling potato. My yields (for ALL of my potatoes) were low this year, so quantities are limited.
