VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
Managed to save a few seeds from this, enough for 1 packet. Will grow more in 2025. Very rare pepper grown by the Karen (K'nyaw) people, an indigenous people of what is now Burma. Seems fairly similar to many Thai peppers. Karen people are forced to flee Burma because the Myanmar dictatorship of Burma, which is currently doing multiple genocides against indigenous minorities there. This is why many Karen people live in Thailand. Many Karen people also resettled in third nations, especially Australia, Canada, the USA, Scandinavia, etc. My state has a huge Karen refugee population, and hopefully more heirloom Karen vegetable seeds are preserved locally in the future. My source was a Canadian seed-saver who received it from someone in the DARE network, which works on the Thailand/Burma border. No info was available about its specific collection locality. Perhaps in the future I shall list a different strain of chili pepper which a Karen refugee friend grows locally.
