I found the seeds for this in the back of my deep freeze. I acquired them in a trade sometime between 1995 and 1998, but don't have any more source information. I grew them out this year, and they look like a "standard" (e.g., Waltham) butternut, but with some thinner curved necks. 2 to 3.6 lbs. Trainling/vinish growth habit. I swear I recall a "Tom's Tahitian" squash from a seed catalog in my childhood--maybe Gurney's or Burpee--but now I can find no evidence of this variety online or in my historical print resources. A possible guess is this is "Tahitian Melon Squash" which was originally introduced by Thompson-Morgan in 1977, (maybe "Thompson" transmogrified to "Tom's"?) but it doesn't have the weight, or the very elongated necks characteristic of Tahitian Melon Squash. Perhaps a compact selection of the variety (but why?) If you have any familiarity with a butternut "Tom's Tahitian" squash, please let me know, so I can either fill out the history, or delist this if it isn't a unique variety.
