VEGETABLES / TOMATO
RED
Bred in the 1960s by Jim Lee, right here on the South Umpqua River in Douglas County, OR. These tomatoes are HUGE! 2 to 3" across the top (stem end), 4 to 6" across blossom end. 5 to 8-9" long! Very meaty, but also sweet & juicy. Good to eat out-of-hand, in salsa & salads. Cooks up fairly fast into a dense, delicious sauce. Ripens very late - I got 5-6 in 85 days - I saved for these - but the main crop is 111 to 115 days. I'm sure I can breed faster ripening time into this one. Almost no gel packs. Seeds are borne just inside the skin, all around the fruit!! This is bred here; we are the sunniest, warmest area in a very cool, wet region! There is no way to know how they will respond to different climates. I feel that this variety is important enough that it should be offered to the world. It is the bar-none best paste tomato in my experience. 73 years of tomato-loving and 53 years of organic gardening and tomato-growing. Limited quantity.
