These are determinate, regular leaf, paste/plum tomatoes. They are great for roasting, making bruschetta or pasta sauce. Tallest plants were 20-22 inches tall. Largest fruits were almost the size of a tennis ball (most were not that size). Fruits are ovoid (egg-shaped), with an deep orange-red color when fully ripe. Some fruits are blocky at the top (stem side). Blossoms/fruit appear in clusters. In 2024, in this region, first tomatoes were harvested 78 days after transplant.
The 2024 plants were grown from seeds that were in refrigerated, and kept in very dry conditions for 31 years. Those plants had been grown out in 1993. The original source seed came from Johnny’s Selected Seeds in the Spring of 1992. Johnny’s original description notes that this variety was developed by Dr. Jack Metcalf, Smithfield Experiment Farm, Ontario, Canada.
